Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, one of the oldest Baptist churches in Charlotte, felt the need to update and renovate its sanctuary. Although the church was originally founded in 1923 on its present site, the present sanctuary was built in 1967 to replace the original sanctuary which burned in 1962. With the exception of only minimum maintenance, the interior of the church had not undergone any changes since the original construction some thirty-four years earlier. The membership felt it was presenting an antiquated face to visitors thus denying itself growth in the size and mission of the church.
Clary Architects, Inc. was given the challenge to renovate the entire area by whatever means and to whatever extent necessary. Nothing was considered off-limits so far as change was concerned and the freedom was given to explore any changes. The most important directive that came from the Renovation Team was that we achieve a closer relationship between the pulpit area and the seated congregation if at all possible.
As this description of the project is being written for this web page, the selected design concept is being finalized for presentation to the membership for review and approval. Upon anticipated acceptance of the presented concept, final contract documents will be prepared for construction.
Estimated construction cost, $1,250,000.
