A new K through 6 school was needed in the newly developed Crown Pointe area of Charlotte and Clary Architects, Inc. was selected to provide the professional design services.

The program called for thirty-two classrooms, a media center and a cafeteria/multi-purpose area. Each classroom was designed with an adjacent but separate work area for the teacher and/or teacher's aid's use. The school was designed to initially accommodate 850 students. The site was extremely severe with a stream separating the main building from the playing fields, necessitating a pedestrian bridge over the stream.

The project was constructed within the scheduled time with a minimum of change orders, most of them arising from changes desired by the in-coming administration who had not been named at the time of the programming and design of the building.

The scope of the project was 81,441 square feet and the competitively bid construction cost was $5,046,235.
